Newport News, Gloucester, & Williamsburg, VA Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

David M. Romano, MD, FAAOS

Accepting New Patients

David M. Romano, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with TPMG Orthopedics in Newport News, Williamsburg, and Gloucester. He earned his Bachelor of Science and his Doctor of Medicine from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Furthering his education, Dr. Romano went on to complete his Orthopedic Internship and Residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. Afterward, Dr. Romano completed his orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Romano is an active member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He joined TPMG Orthopedics in 2025.

Practicing orthopedics for over a decade, Dr. Romano began his career as an active-duty United States Army orthopedic surgeon. After leaving the military in 2019, he began his civilian practice. Dr. Romano was first exposed to orthopedics during his senior year of high school when he sustained a wrestling knee injury that required surgery. During his college years, the orthopedic surgeon who operated on his knee allowed Dr. Romano to shadow him in the operating room, and once he’d seen his first knee replacement surgery, Dr. Romano knew he was destined to be an orthopedic surgeon.

As a provider, Dr. Romano prioritizes strong relationships with his patients. As a fracture and traumatic reconstruction specialist, he often meets patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives, following significant injury. He recognizes that traumatic injuries can profoundly disrupt a patient’s daily functioning and overall well-being. Dr. Romano considers himself privileged to have a skill set that allows him to help patients return to full function and eliminate as much pain as possible.

A proponent of the shared decision-making process between patients and their surgeon, Dr. Romano works alongside patients to embark on the journey towards recovery. Inspired by his mother, a nurse who taught him that every patient is unique and deserves exceptional care, he strives to treat each person as he would want his own family treated. By forging professional relationships with patients, Dr. Romano ensures that patients feel comfortable and confident that they are receiving the best possible care.

Dr. Romano treats and specializes in the care of injured patients, including acute fracture care and reconstruction of sequela after trauma. He performs fixation of fractures (broken bones), repair of injured soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, and skin wounds), infections, non-healed bones, deformities, arthritis, bone loss, and amputations. Dr. Romano also manages injuries to the upper and lower extremities in addition to the pelvis and treats pathologic fractures caused by osteoporosis, lytic lesions, and known tumors. Dr. Romano has a particular medical interest in working with complex acute injuries, problems after trauma, infections, non-healing or wrongly healed bones, limb length disorders, and failed previous surgeries.

Like many West Virginians, Dr. Romano grew up with a love for the outdoors. He is an avid hunter, angler, and skier. When he isn’t in the office, he can be found spending time with family on their boat and tending to his vegetable garden, where he grows his own fresh produce, cans food, and crafts homemade hot sauce.

Dr. Romano warmly welcomes patients to make an appointment to see him at TPMG Orthopedics.
