Orthopedia Surgeon & Sports Medicine Physician

Thomas Durbin MD, FAAOS, CAQSM, is a fellowship-trained, board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports-related injuries and conditions, with a focus on disorders of the knee and shoulder. He joined TPMG Orthopedics in 2012.

Dr. Durbin earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his medical degree at The Ohio State University. He completed residency training at Mount Carmel Medical Center, where he developed a special interest in arthroscopy and sports medicine. This interest led him to pursue an additional year of training in sports medicine at The University of Kentucky in an intensive fellowship program focusing on innovative techniques in shoulder and knee arthroscopy.

In his surgical practice, Dr. Durbin performs many advanced surgical and arthroscopic procedures including: Anatomic ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff tear repair, labral repairs, tendon surgery, meniscal repairs, cartilage restoration, carpal tunnel release, and trigger finger release. For general orthopedics and fracture care, Dr. Durbin takes a conservative approach to care and is adept at nonsurgical techniques and treatments. In the event surgery is the best course of treatment, he will perform the indicated surgery to best restore function and eliminate pain.

A lifelong learner, Dr. Durbin refines his knowledge and skills with state-of-the-art techniques by remaining active in national medical societies. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America. Dr. Durbin has been honored by his peers multiple years in a row as a “Top Doc” in his field.

An active member of the local sports community, Dr. Durbin serves as orthopedic team physician for the College of William and Mary, providing sideline coverage for the football, soccer and lacrosse teams. He is an affiliate physician for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and, each spring, he assists in the care of the LPGA players at the Kingsmill Championship. He also provides care to many local high school athletes and weekend warriors.

Dr. Durbin sees patients at TPMG Orthopedics offices in Newport News and Williamsburg. He performs surgery at Mary Immaculate Ambulatory Surgery Center in Newport News, Surgical Suites of Coastal Virginia in Williamsburg, and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Durbin lives in Williamsburg with his wife, Megan, and three children. He enjoys spending quality time with his family, golfing, exercising, and watching collegiate and professional sports.
