Microneedling: What to Expect

Microneedling

BOOST COLLAGEN TO IMPROVE SKIN TEXTURE

The microneedling procedure causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of your skin intact.  Microneedling is mostly used to treat various types of scars, wrinkles, and to improve texture and pigmentation.

What to expect from the Microneedling procedure

The microneedling device has a sterile disposable rotating tip with multiple tiny sharp needles.  Board certified dermatologist, Valerie M. Harvey, MD, MPH, FAAD applies a numbing agent an hour prior to the procedure to minimize pain.  The treatment will last approximately thirty minutes.  Most patients report feeling only the slight vibration from the device during the procedure.

Minimal post-procedure effects. The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn. Additionally, the most common treatment responses experienced were dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions resolve over time without any further complications.

Soothing aftercare. Dr. Harvey will provide, a clean, non-cytotoxic hydrogel used to prevent the skin from drying out post-treatment.

Please note, 3-5 treatments are needed for desired results*
