Valerie M. Harvey, MD, MPH, FAAD, earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia. She completed her residency and Chief Residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She later received a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Harvey is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

As a highly-skilled, board-certified dermatologist with over a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Harvey provides advanced patient-centered care for diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. Dr. Harvey is an expert in treating both common and uncommon skin conditions including acneeczema, psoriasis, various forms of hair loss, including alopecia areata, and skin cancer.

Dr. Harvey also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pigmentary disorders such as hyperpigmentation and melasma, as well as other skin conditions which disproportionately impact minority patients. Her past research efforts have focused on studying gaps in melanoma outcomes and the use of dermatology services among the underserved. Dr. Harvey has authored many scientific articles and book chapters and has lectured at national medical meetings on these topics.

Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Harvey is an active leader in the dermatologic community. She serves on numerous boards and committees for the American Academy of Dermatology and the Skin of Color Society. She is the Immediate Past President of the Skin of Color Society and is also the Past President of the Virginia Dermatology Society.

Dr. Harvey has extended her services to a second location: TPMG Hampton Roads Center for Dermatology – Virginia Beach in May 2022. 

A native of New York, Dr. Harvey is married and a mother to three girls.
