James ‘Jay’ Walters, III, FNP-C is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with TPMG Holland Road Family Medicine in Virginia Beach. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University College of Nursing. James also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from Radford University, after which he discovered his passion for healthcare. James is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and joined TPMG Holland Road Family Medicine in 2024. 

With a decade of experience, Jay began his nursing career as an inpatient registered nurse on a medical-surgical and orthopedic unit. Later he moved to a cardiac and medical-surgical unit before earning his master’s degree. Jay’s passion for science, math, physics, and problem-solving led him to pursue a career in the medical field. This profession seemed like a natural fit, which combined his passion for serving others and his love for learning. He is committed to partnering with his patients as they achieve their health goals. 

As a provider, Jay ensures his patients remain informed about their level of wellness, the complexities of their diseases, options for treatment, and the role of primary care and prevention in their lives. He believes that patients can enhance their quality of life by gaining a comprehensive understanding of their bodies, diseases, treatments, and preventative measures. Working alongside his patients and fellow healthcare professionals, Jay equips them with the knowledge and assurance necessary for patients to make informed decisions regarding their health and happiness. 

Jay sees patients from adolescents to those of advanced age, addressing a variety of acute and chronic conditions. These include respiratory infections, allergies, headaches, heartburn, urinary tract infections, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, musculoskeletal pain, anxiety, and depression. He has a special medical interest in treating patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and conditions.  

When he isn’t in the office, Jay enjoys spending time with his wife and their daughter, playing the drums, surfing, and swimming. A long-time resident of Hampton Roads, Jay appreciates the array of community events, hiking trails, beaches, and unique cultures. Jay also served as a lifeguard and sergeant for the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service (VBLS) for 14 years and as an EMT-B for the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad (VBVRS) for four years.
