Saunora Prom, DO, FAOASM, received his Bachelor of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006 and completed a Family Medicine residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center in 2009. Dr. Prom continued his osteopathic training by completing an OMM/NMM +1 fellowship at UMDNJ-SOM in Stratford, New Jersey in 2010 and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Virginia Tech/VCOM in 2011.

Dr. Prom started Tidewater Sports & Osteopathic Medicine in 2011 to provide the Hampton Roads area with a variety of interventions for orthopedic issues and with a vision to bring non-surgical options to the forefront of orthopedic medicine. As many musculoskeletal issues do not require surgery, Dr. Prom first strives to find the true root cause of pain and the right personal treatment for his patients.

In his treatment approach, Dr. Prom often uses hands-on manipulation called Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment (OMT). OMT is a gentle but powerful treatment used to help diagnose and treat a wide variety of issues, including back pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, headaches, neck pain, musculoskeletal issues during pregnancy, Temporomandibular Joint dysfunction (TMJ), and concussions.

Dr. Prom also uses ultrasound to help diagnose and treat. With the help of ultrasound, injections can be placed with less pain, more precision, and safety, and can, with confidence, reach areas such as the nerves, hips, hands, sacroiliac joint, knees, hips, feet, and ankles.  Ultrasound-guided injection therapies include platelet-rich plasma (PRP), Hyaluronic Acid, trigger points, Shockwave Therapy (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)), and steroids.

Dr. Prom enjoys treating patients of all ages of life and athletic ability. As a sports medicine specialist, he is an ideal physician for the “weekend warrior” and “industrial athlete”, as well as the non-athlete; including those who wish to become active or begin an exercise program.  He also provides the latest in concussion treatment, including ImPact testing and OMT. 

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Prom is a clinical faculty member at VCOM, Liberty College of Osteopathic Medicine, VCU/Riverside Family Medicine, and EVMS Family Medicine. He has given many lectures over the years for a wide range of audiences at the local and national levels. He also regularly covers local sporting events ranging from high school athletics to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and mass running events; and is the team physician for Old Dominion University. 

When he’s not working, Dr. Prom enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, grilling, exercising, and boating.
