Chhaya Patel, MD, is board-certified in Internal Medicine and has over 20 years of experience as a primary care physician. Dr. Patel earned her Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery from K.J. Somaiya Medical College and Research Center in Mumbai, India. Furthering her education, she completed her Internal Medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS).

Dr. Patel’s lifelong passion for solving problems and helping others naturally merged into a career as a physician. As a doctor, she can best serve the community she has come to love so much. As a provider, her goal is to empower her patients to take their health into their own hands through education, quality care, and the latest advancements in medicine. Proper guidance and care ensure her patients have an opportunity to use prevention as a tool to manage their healthcare problems and address issues before they arise. As a firm believer in preventative medicine, Dr. Patel knows her role as a physician is vital to the healthcare process. Patients who receive continuity of care have better health outcomes. This team-based approach reduces fragmentation of care and thus improves both patient safety and quality of care.

Each of Dr. Patel’s patients receives the same time, compassion, consideration, and care that she would give to a lifelong friend. Improving the lives of those around her she sees as the best part of working in healthcare. By viewing her patients as people first, rather than a health history or set of symptoms, she strives to guarantee each of her patients feels valued.

Her outstanding level of care led to her distinction as a ‘Top Doctor’ of Hampton Roads in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. Dr. Patel is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Dr. Patel treats adults ages 18 and up for a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions. She specializes in the treatment of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, thyroid problems, anemia, gout, migraine, women’s health issues, well-woman exams, preventative care, and more.

When she isn’t seeing patients, Dr. Patel enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, and dancing. She loves to spend time outdoors with her family, exploring all that the Hampton Roads area has to offer.
