Cardiorenal Syndrome (CRS) refers to any condition that affects the heart or kidneys and contributes to a chronic issue with the other. The heart and kidneys often work together. If the kidneys aren’t working properly, it can put stress on your heart and vice versa. Kidney disease and heart disease also share two main causes: diabetes and high blood pressure.

How do the kidneys and heart work together?

The kidneys are responsible for filtering the body’s blood, and removing waste through the urine. The heart’s job is to provide a constant supply of oxygenated blood for the body. The heart’s job is to provide a constant supply of oxygenated blood for the body. When the kidneys are underperforming due to damage or deterioration, our hormones that regulate blood pressure overcorrect to

increase blood supply to the kidneys. This results in further stress for the heart, which has to deal with the increase in blood pressure. This stress can ultimately result in heart disease.

How Do We Treat Cardiorenal Syndrome?

A combination of kidney and heart disease can be difficult to treat. Managing your blood pressure is one of the best ways to help both conditions. Additionally, cardiorenal syndrome is also treated with multiple forms of medication to treat both conditions.
