Acute renal failure (ARF), also known as acute kidney injury, is a condition involving a sudden loss of kidney function or kidney failure, occurring within a few hours or days. Multiple things can cause ARF, including a medical condition that slows blood flow to the kidneys, kidney damage, or a urine blockage in the kidneys. ARF can be deadly and requires immediate medical attention.
Diagnosing & Treating Acute Renal Failure
If your doctor suspects you may have ARF, they may run tests to confirm (urine, blood, imaging, kidney biopsy tests). Treatment for ARF often requires a two-fold approach—treating the underlying cause of the kidney damage as well as the complications due to the kidney damage.
For further consultation regarding ARF or its complications, make an appointment to see board-certified nephrologist, Sudip Ghimire, MD, FASN of TPMG Nephrology. To schedule an appointment, call (757) 599-3436.
