TPMG Partners With Local Virginia Foodbanks for Fall Food Drive

TPMG Partners With Local Virginia Foodbanks for Fall Food Drive

October 7, 2021
Newport News, Virginia – TPMG has partnered with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore for our annual food drive from November 1-12. This fall, we’re looking to provide nutritious meals and non-perishable items to seniors, children, and families in need. We are accepting canned food, non-perishable items, and/or monetary donations. No donation is too big or too small!
“As food donations have declined dramatically since the beginning of the pandemic, this food drive will kickstart the giving season and help us to replenish our shelves with nourishment for our neighbors in need. We are grateful for the assistance of Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group in serving our community,” said Community Engagement Coordinator, Moriah Meulenberg from the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
Every $1 donated helps provide 4 well-balanced meals for people in need. These monetary donations will be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables that cannot be donated. The foodbanks work with local farmers and distributors to get reduced pricing on bulk items. Every $10 donation can provide up to $60 worth of groceries making your dollar go further. Last year, we raised over 3,000 dollars for food banks in our area, which contributed to over 15,000 meals from monetary donations alone for the community. To make a monetary donation to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank or Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, visit:
Virginia Peninsula Foodbank:
Serves Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and other neighboring counties.
TPMG GOAL: $3,000
Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore:
Serves Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Eastern Shore, and other southeastern counties.
TPMG GOAL: $3,000
The most needed items include:
  • Canned tuna, chicken, and ham
  • Pasta meals and sauces
  • Canned fruit or fruit cups
  • Hearty meaty soups
  • Cereal, breakfast bars, and oatmeal
  • Rice boxes and whole wheat pasta
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Mac and cheese
  • Condiments – Syrup, ketchup, mustard, and mayo
Having access to nutritious meals is beneficial to overall wellness. Proper nutrition contributes to a stronger immune system, increased energy levels, and reduced risk of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. The body needs the proper amount of nutrients to stay strong and fight against illnesses, such as the common cold. Nutrients can be gained from eating an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to healthy foods and with the added pressure from the recent pandemic, food drives like these are vital for keeping our community healthy and fed.
