TPMG Conducts cSUI Clinical Research Study
Newport News, VA, December 15, 2020 – TPMG Clinical Research Division in Newport News is conducting a clinical research study for women who experience bladder leaks due to chronic cough induced stress urinary incontinence, or cSUI. The purpose of this study is to evaluate an investigational drug, MK-7264-042, to determine if it may be a safe and effective treatment for cSUI. Newport News Clinical Research Director,
Linda Schneider, MD, MBA, FAAFP, is the lead investigator conducting this study.
Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) occurs when you leak urine unintentionally as a result of pressure, or stress, on your bladder. This stress happens during physical movements or activities, such as coughing, sneezing, running, laughing, or lifting. If you have a chronic cough that leads to bladder leakage, you may have cSUI.
Â
“CSUI can be embarrassing, especially when you’re on the go. Not every cough will result in leakage, so it’s important to take control of this condition before it takes control of you,” said Newport News Clinical Research Director, Linda Schneider, MD, MBA, FAAFP.
Â
Participants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a woman
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a persistent (chronic) cough
- Must leak urine when you cough
If you complete the study, your participation will last approximately 22 weeks and include about 6 scheduled visits to the study clinic and 2 phone calls with the study team. You can stop taking part in this study at any time. If you choose not to take part or you choose to withdraw, medical care you receive outside the study will not be affected. The study doctor will discuss other treatment options with you.
