Tidewater Primary Care Physicians (TPCP) was formed
Tidewater Primary Care Physicians, P.C., was formed with four primary care medical groups in Newport News, Hampton, and Yorktown, Virginia. The group changed its name to Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group due to the addition of General Surgery as our first specialty
Tidewater Primary Care Physicians (TPCP) officially became Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG). The group that started with four primary care groups has now expanded throughout the Hampton Roads area and southeastern Virginia to include more than 85 locations and over 240 providers.

TPMG began conducting clinical research trials
The TPMG Clinical Research Division has more than 60 years of combined experience in leading, co-investigating, and coordinating clinical research trials for a wide range of conditions and diseases including asthma, COPD, Crohn’s disease, COVID-19 and more.

TPMG partnered with PhyCor Management Group
TPMG’s partnership with PhyCor Management Group facilitated shared management services to create physician networks and medical clinics.

TPMG Central Lab Opens
TPMG opens a high complexity clinical laboratory and its first imaging center.

TPMG became independent following partnership with PhyCor Management Group
In order to preserve the vision of a physician-directed multi-specialty group, TPMG separated from PhyCor Management Group to pursue an independent multi-specialty organization. Founding members believed this would allow physicians to deliver quality medical care to our local communities.

The first edition of Vital Signs was released
Vital Signs is TPMG’s ongoing employee newsletter which keeps staff up-to-date on the multitude of events, awards, and other exciting developments from our organization.

TPMG’s first medical center was introduced
Tidewater Medical Center in Newport News became TPMG’s first medical center.

NextGen Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system was implemented
The new system created an integrated and innovative platform for physicians to connect with patients and provide even greater patient care, creating documents and letters for providers, managing prescriptions and clinical images, offering patient education, and ensuring a secure exchange of data.

Mobile MRIs were added
Mobile MRIs allow TPMG to serve a larger patient population, increasing appointment availability and scanner access.

TPMG’s New Town Center Hub opened
TPMG opened a Williamsburg hub location for multiple practices in an effort to provide access to patients across all areas of Hampton Roads.

TPMG added its first physical therapy location
STRIVE Fitness and Sports Performance began offering physical therapy services at TPMG’s New Town Center Hub.

TPMG became an accredited Breast Center (ACR Breast Center of Excellence)
TPMG Imaging and Breast Center earned the prestigious designation of “Breast Center of Excellence” by the American College of Radiology. This distinction reflects the rigorous standard of our imaging procedures and technology.

Tidewater Accountable Care Organization was formed
Tidewater Accountable Care Organization (TACO) is a Shared Savings Program that provides Medicare beneficiaries access to high-quality, coordinated care.

What is an Accountable Care Organization (ACO)?
An ACO is a Medicare program in which healthcare providers work together to improve the quality of care for the Medicare beneficiaries they serve. TPMG is voluntarily joining an ACO as we wish to find ways to deliver the best care promptly and at an affordable cost. ACO networks allow providers to share clinical information, which helps to improve the coordination of care to their Medicare patients.

TPMG New Town Center Hub expands
Our Williamsburg hub added a second building, expanding our location and increasing the services we offer to our Williamsburg patients, including the opening of TPMG Procedure Suite which offers outpatient procedures for several specialties.

Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) Protocol was developed
Dr. Lisa Coleman developed new protocol to improve the length of hospital stays and patient outcomes at Mary Immaculate Hospital.

New technology added to our Imaging and Breast Centers
Williamsburg Imaging Center added fixed CT and fixed MRI, Hampton Imaging Center started performing mammograms, and Newport News Imaging Center added fixed MRI.

TPMG is awarded a grant by March of Dimes and Anthem to support CenteringPregnancy
CenteringPregnancy is a group prenatal care model that provides invaluable education to expectant mothers. TPMG Obstetrics & Gynecology is the only practice to offer this service to patients on the Peninsula. The grant is part of the March of Dime’s efforts to fight for the health of all moms and babies by reducing premature births and improving maternal and infant health.

TPMG Tidewater Medical Center gained cutting-edge imaging technology
The TPMG Procedure Suite in Williamsburg acquired a new piece of imaging equipment, the OEC 9800 C-arm. This advanced technology allows TPMG physicians to perform a variety of imaging tests including arthrograms, a radiological test used in conjunction with an MRI to better diagnose patients with joint conditions.

TPMG partnered with InteliChart to create our patient portal
TPMG’s patient portal helps you stay connected with your provider, request prescription refills, access your test results, manage your appointments, and more. Our patient portal provides patients greater access to their providers with convenient mobile and desktop accessibility in a safe and secure platform.

TPMG Offers Virtual Health Visits
Utilizing the OTTO Health Virtual Visit platform, TPMG is able to provide even greater access to patient care. We continue to care for patient with extra telemedicine services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our patients’ safety is of the utmost importance.

TPMG Virginia Beach Hub opens
TPMG opened a Southside medical center on Virginia Beach Boulevard with ten offices and 60 staff members serving patients in the Virginia Beach Town Center area. This expansion signifies TPMG’s commitment to providing patients expedited, quality care at a competitive cost.

Since our founding in 1992, TPMG has led the way in groundbreaking clinical research, advanced robot-assisted surgeries, and cost-effective measures for diagnostic imaging.

TPMG institutes a Collaborative Care Model for mental health counseling
TPMG Behavioral Health partnered with primary care providers to introduce a patient-centric approach to mental health care. The Collaborative Care Model fills in the gaps in mental health care by connecting TPMG primary care providers to a behavioral health care manager and a psychiatric consultant.

TPMG Cardiology introduced on-site nuclear imaging
In September 2023, TPMG introduced on-site, state-of-the-art nuclear imaging technology in all cardiology offices, transforming the approach to diagnosing and managing cardiovascular conditions. On-site nuclear medicine services help diagnose and treat medical conditions in the early progressions of a disease, which allows for less invasive treatment options.
