Newport News, VA, February 1, 2019 – TPMG Imaging and Breast Centers in Newport News and Williamsburg will offer mammogram appointments on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We understand how difficult it can be to fit a preventative screening appointment into an already busy schedule.” said Janae Johnson, MD, board-certified and fellowship-trained breast imaging radiologist. “We hope offering extended mammogram appointments will not only encourage this life-saving testing, but ease some of the burden in receiving this important service.”
According to BreastCancer.org, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. “Currently, there is no way to prevent breast cancer, so we strive to find it early when it is most treatable. Screening mammograms are the gold standard, the best first tool in the fight against breast cancer.”
Johnson recommends all women over the age of 40 receive a yearly screening mammogram. For patients with additional risk factors or a family history of breast cancer, it is recommended screenings begin at an earlier age.
TPMG Imaging and Breast Centers are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and offer 2D and 3D mammography imaging to achieve the best quality images for each patient. The facility has been awarded the title of ACR Breast Center of Excellence, which is a recognition considered to be the highest designation offered for centers that achieve excellence in imaging quality and safety. Additionally, at TPMG all images are reviewed by a fellowship-trained breast imaging radiologist.
Appointments can be made by contacting the Imaging and Breast Centers in Newport News at (757) 873-1936 and Williamsburg at (757) 707-3510 or through a Primary Care Provider’s office.
