Petersen, MD, FACP, FACE, ECNU received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and then returned home to Coastal Virginia to obtain his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School.  He stayed at EVMS to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as his fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Petersen has achieved Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) status through the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE). Dr. Petersen is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the American College of Physicians. Additionally, he is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and is published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Petersen currently volunteers as a baseball coach for his son’s travel team and has enjoyed serving on multiple mission trips to Central America. Dr. Petersen is married and has three children.
