5424 Discovery Park Boulevard 1030 Champions Way 802 Lockwood Avenue Monday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Skylar G. Poland, AuD, CCC-A graduated Summa Cum Laude earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. Furthering her education, she earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. During her time at East Carolina University, Skylar received a “breadth and depth” style of audiological evaluation, with both didactic coursework and extensive clinical rotations. It was during those clinical rotations that she discovered her passion working with adults, but also her innate gift for working with children, as well. Thus, she furthered her studies and completed a fellowship at The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia, where she served as a pediatric audiology fellow. From an early age, Skylar’s altruistic nature drew her to the medical field. Her desire to become a Doctor of Audiology was cultivated by sharing in special auditory life moments such as hearing the cry of an infant, listening to good music, or participating in heartfelt conversations with family. Skylar strives to ensure her patients are given compassionate care and are well-informed with the most up-to-date knowledge of audiological treatment options. Her philosophy of care centers on the importance of patient-provider relationships, allowing her to connect with patients as a whole rather than focus on the technical aspects of audiograms and hearing aid fittings. This approach addresses the emotional needs that come along with a hearing loss diagnosis and provides Skylar with a better grasp of each patient’s specific needs and goals. Skylar treats patients aged seven months to adults for sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss. Her special medical interests include pediatric hearing and hearing disorders, craniofacial disorders impacting hearing, pathology-related hearing losses, and telepractice. In addition to her practice, Skylar also values education. She was awarded her Certificate of Clinical Confidence (CCC-A) by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). Additionally, she serves as an ASHA-compliant preceptor for fourth-year AuD students. When she’s not in the office, Skylar enjoys spending time at her family’s beach cottage in North Carolina, fishing on the Nottoway River with her husband, and running with her dog. As a Suffolk native, Hampton Roads is home to Skylar and her family and friends. Skylar enjoys working with phenomenal, like-minded professionals and meeting new patients.
