Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Newport News, VA

*Beginning January 2023, all Friday appointments will be virtual.*

Nana Winbush, APRN, PMHNP-BC earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hampton University School of Nursing in Hampton. Furthering her education, she received a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University where she completed the Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Program. She is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner trained to provide psychotherapy and psychopharmacological services.

As an attentive listener and compassionate caregiver, Nana’s approach to mental health care places the patient’s wellness at the forefront. She applies humility, warmth, and understanding in her initial assessment. Nana strives to provide a humanistic philosophy of care, which aims to provide care with respect and dignity to an individual’s beliefs and values. Following this approach, she understands that compassion can be a powerful catalyst for healing.

Nana has a diverse background from her U.S. Army Veteran training to civilian patient care. She also has a total of 17 years of critical, psychiatric, medical-surgical, and outpatient experience in identifying and managing individuals across their lifespans. Her unique experience gives her a rare opportunity to empathize and work together with her patients to achieve a reduction of psychiatric symptoms. Her military background also allows her to relate well to mental health concerns specific to service members, such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

At TPMG, Nana provides psychotherapy and collaborative care management for patients 18 years and up with a variety of conditions including PTSD, major depression, insomnia, anxiety, ADHD, suicide ideation, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health issues. Nana is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).

When she isn’t seeing patients, Nana enjoys playing with her two grandchildren, walking her Pomeranian, Princess Lulu, and spending time reading, gardening, traveling and playing board games with family and friends. In her spare time, she also volunteers at the Hampton Food Bank and the HELP INC homeless shelter.

Nana joined TPMG Behavioral Health in Newport News and warmly welcomes individuals seeking mental wellness.
