Michael McCarthy, PA-C

BIOGRAPHY

Michael McCarthy, PA-C joined TPMG Orthopedics in early 2015. In the years since, Michael has worked collaboratively with each of the physicians in the group providing care to patients in the Newport News and Williamsburg office locations. He specializes in all aspects of orthopedic care to the full scope of an Advanced Practice Clinician.

Michael received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 2008 and his Master of Physician Assistant from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk in 2015.

As a Physician Assistant, Michael sees patients at office visits and performs many of the same procedures as his supervising physicians, including fracture care, ordering and interpretation of imaging and laboratory results, prescription of appropriate medication, and musculoskeletal joint injections.  He also supports patients during both pre-operative and post-operative appointments for the group, assists in expanding care to the groups’ patients by consulting and rounding in the hospital, and acting as the assistant in the operating room.  

Michael is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.  His areas of research interest include the integration of Advanced Practice Clinicians in expanding care to under-served populations.

In his leisure time, Michael enjoys traveling with his wife and two children, competing in disc dog competitions with his Australian Shepard, and writing for a film blog with his friends.  In the ever-changing climate of healthcare, he enjoys the opportunity as a Physician Assistant to provide personalized care and attention to individualized patients, as well as working collaboratively with the group’s orthopedic doctors to provide the best quality of care possible.
