She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Distinction from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Furthering her education, Leanna earned her Master of Science: Family Nurse Practitioner from Old Dominion University in Norfolk. Leanna has a vast range of medical experience. She began her nursing career in 2005, starting at an oncology hospital outside of Chicago while her husband completed his military service. After that, she and her husband moved to California where she worked as a nurse for the University of California in the cancer department. Moving to Charlottesville, she worked at the University of Virginia and Sentara Martha Jefferson in their cancer centers for over a decade. After earning her Master of Science: Family Nurse Practitioner, Leanna moved to the Hampton Roads area to be closer to family. Prior to joining TPMG, Leanna worked at the Peninsula Cancer Institute eventually transferring into hospice care. Leanna’s interest in medicine began after a personal family experience caring for her grandmother when she had cancer. During this time she was able to spend precious time with her and it forever changed her life, paving the future for her career in health care. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she aims to provide compassionate and empathetic care to all that she serves. She is dedicated to each patient, and aims to provide a positive experience for those under her care. She sees patients of all ages for a variety of medical conditions. As a provider with TPMG General Surgery and Hernia Center, she strives to treat each patient with respect and understanding in regards to their medical needs. Leanna is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners (VCNP). As an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), she is also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society. Outside of the office, Leanna enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and watching a multitude of sporting events with her three young boys.
