Endocrinology Physician Assistant in Virginia Beach, VA

John Goodwin, PA-C is a board-certified physician assistant with TPMG Coastal Endocrinology in Virginia Beach. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland in College Park Maryland, and later his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Commonwealth University in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. John joined TPMG Coastal Endocrinology in 2023.

Exposed to the medical field at an early age due to a type 1 diabetes diagnosis at age 12, John discovered a passion for helping others through health challenges. Although initially imposing, the care and empathy he received from his pediatric endocrinologist’s team helped John through the difficult process. While studying to earn his bachelor’s degree, John also served at Camp Nejeda, a summer camp for children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Interacting with the campers and modeling self-care helped him realize his potential impact and ultimately led to his decision to become a healthcare provider. Through his work, John provides support and education to make daunting diagnoses more manageable.

By forming connections with his patients, John can treat them with the care they deserve. John helps guide and educate patients as they learn to live with chronic conditions. As a provider who also has type 1 diabetes, John has a unique understanding and empathy for the challenges faced by his patients with chronic conditions. He is a proponent of adjusting care to the lives of his patients and believes that a series of small, healthy choices can add up to a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

John sees adults for a variety of chronic conditions, including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, osteoporosis, obesity, hormone disorders, and more. He has a particular medical interest in diabetes care.

Outside of the office, John can be found watching his favorite show, Survivor, cheering on the New York Giants, playing intramural soccer, and reading. With a soft spot for rescue dogs, John also enjoys raising adopted animals. He enjoys Hampton Roads for its proximity to the water and the great selection of food.

John warmly welcomes patients to make an appointment to see him at TPMG Coastal Endocrinology in Virginia Beach.
