Physical Therapist in Newport News, VA

Derryn Bray, PT, DPT, is originally from Australia, a fact that you pick up on immediately after meeting him!  Derryn moved to the United States in 2004 and attended Old Dominion University (ODU), graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Community Health.  He continued on to receive his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2012. Following graduation, Derryn joined TPMG Physical Therapy, where he practiced until 2016.

Prior to returning to TPMG Physical Therapy, Derryn served as a Sports Medicine Physical Therapy Supervisor for The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD). During his time at CHKD, he gained valuable experience treating an array of surgical and non-surgical sporting injuries, including concussions and vestibular complaints.

Derryn is a proud member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Virginia Physical Therapy Association.  He is passionate about continuing his education, and to ensure he is current on the latest techniques and treatments, he regularly reviews peer-reviewed journals and completes independent study courses through the American Physical Therapy Association. Derryn has also served as an instructor for doctoral students during their clinical rotations and thoroughly enjoys this interaction and sharing his knowledge of physical therapy with students.

TPMG Physical Therapy welcomed Derryn back to their team of physical therapists in 2017 and he has assumed the role of Clinical Director. Derryn practices at our Newport News office.

Derryn is often seen in the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine department giving updates to referring providers and ensuring his patients’ needs are met.  His warm Aussie demeanor puts patients at ease and his abilities, clear love of Physical Therapy, and the care he provides to his patients produce great results.

Outside of the clinic, Derryn can be found running the roads of Poquoson and York County in the early morning hours and spending time with his wife and two daughters, who are heavily involved with dancing and field hockey.
