**TPMG Behavioral Health is saddened to announce Sherrard Marrow’s last day is March 15, 2024.**

Founded in 1979, Chessen & Associates, was a private group practice specializing in mental health counseling in Newport News, VA. TPMG announced Chessen & Associates joined our team of professionals in June 2015 as Chessen Behavioral Health. On June 30, 2017, Dr. Douglas Chessen retired and the practice became TPMG Behavioral Health. TPMG later welcomed Dr. Kenneth Richmond, a board-certified psychiatrist.

TPMG Behavioral Health is moving towards elevating the patient care experience with each visit. Patient responsibility is a critical element to our successful ability to provide safe patient care, acknowledgment of the challenges faced given the increased demand for mental health services, and our commitment to be there for them. 

Dr. Richmond and our caring staff are here to help you with all your counseling needs, and to deliver high-quality care that is safe and caring. We work in partnership with all our patients to rebuild and enhance their

 overall health and well-being. We offer a comprehensive array of services, including medication and counseling services. Online and virtual counseling options are available.

Please note that we have updated our consent forms and that the fee for missed appointments, late cancellations, and completion of forms is $100.

Our group of professionals consists of a variety of backgrounds and training in human behavior and relationships. We offer a broad range of mental health counseling services, including:

    • Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment of Addictive Disorders

Psychiatric Evaluation

A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation may be necessary to diagnose any number of emotional, behavioral or developmental disorders.

Individual Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy involves regularly scheduled talks between the patient and one of our mental health professionals. The sessions may focus on current or past problems, experiences, thoughts, feelings or relationships. By sharing experiences with a trained empathic person, individuals may gradually come to understand more about themselves and their problems.

Family and Marriage Counseling in Newport News

Family and marital therapy focus very clearly on the relationships involved, and by involving all the people concerned, seeks to help those relationships work better.

Medications:

Our office uses the Virginia Prescription Drug Monitoring Program in order to monitor and reduce the risk of prescription drug misuse. Patients showing misuse of medication(s) or attempts of refills by numerous physicians will be discharged from our practice.
